Dark Comet
The Dark Comet is the third entry from the tight-lipped engineers and designers at the secretive Challenger Studio of Quantum Prime. As with their first rocket, the Righteous Fire, the team at Challenger Studio decided not to obsess with high technology and silly concepts like “form follows function.” No, for them, form comes first – and the more radical, extreme, and downright scary, the better – and function will just have to get shoe-horned in after the fact.
Rumors say that each Dark Comet is forged from fragments of nickel-iron asteroid. If true (and there are pictures purporting to show this process, but who knows if they’re real?) then the team at Challenger Studio has apparently mastered the art of heating asteroid fragments until they’re yellow hot, beating them with impact hammers into the rough shape, letting them cool, and then hollowing out the inside to make room for the drive mechanism. Whether that’s the actual technique or no, there’s no denying that the Dark Comet looks like it’s been forged from something primeval and retrieved from the depths of space.
Do looks matter? Do the thick bulk and jutting crags of a Dark Comet help a Rocket Dog race faster? That will only be known for sure by the Rocket Dogs who are lucky enough to own one - or by the other Rocket Dogs unlucky enough to race against a competitor who has one.
