Cybernetic Visor

Cybernetic Visor, from the researchers at Torno, is a second-generation product. The scientists and engineers on the project did groundbreaking work designing and building Ares’ Reticle, which meant trying to cram in sensors and computers from starships and satellites into a tiny package, albeit with some tradeoffs. The results, while impressive, were imperfect. The long-range scanning left something to be desired. The data buffers weren’t as large as they might be. There was minimal ability for the Reticle to interface with other pieces of gear.

They were proud of what they’d built … but, with the lessons learned along the way, they knew they could do better.

They started by upgrading the old design, using cutting edge chips from experimental Toba fabs that use thin sliced crystals harvested from Radiant Refractor as a substrate. Those chips gave the goggles bigger buffers and faster processing, but that wasn’t enough. The researchers went on to invent entirely new optics, based on a new sputter deposition thin-film coating technique inspired by the exotic atmosphere and strange aurora of Proxima Twilight. Finally, they partnered with the Shodo Group to borrow some of their impact resistant technology.

The end result - the Cybernetic Visor - are a marvel. Lightning-fast processing and advanced long-range optics let any dog wearing a pair track and identify obstacles and hazards well in advance. They’re exceedingly hard to construct, which is why they’re ultra-rare, but if your Rocket Dog is lucky enough to have a pair, you’ll know that they’re worth it.
